My Method

For Individual Clients:

My counseling is caring, realistic and practical… INDIVIDUALS come to me because they want to change so that they can feel better. My therapy is directed toward the improvement of feelings. Unhappiness due to depression, anger, anxiety, and low self-esteem can be overcome with cognitive therapy. More specifically, by learning and personalizing a few simple “re-thinking” strategies, you can change what you do and how you do it. Achieving more successful results brings on better feelings and good moods. These better feelings will motivate you to want to continue with the changes you have made. You develop the new and better habits you really want.

ANGER very hard to stop or manage; instead, learn to “see” stressful situations differently and thereby decrease or avoid anger altogether.
LONELINESS as you learn and value approaching skills, loneliness gradually disappears.
SELF-ESTEEM must be within your control and high; depends on where you look for it.
UPBEAT as you become more skillful in meeting your personal needs, you become energized, excited and more desirable.

For Couples:
A similar method is used with COUPLES who want their relationship to be happier. I see couples as individuals who happen to be married or in a relationship. Each individual must feel justified in changing. That is, a client must learn and believe that new thoughts and actions are easy and will genuinely make him/her happier. At that point, they choose to change. Successful outcomes have regularly occurred when couples “re-think” such critical issues as trust, communication, commitment, and intimacy.

TRUST – vital to any relationship; can be re-established after you learn to re-think.
COMMUNICATION– based on how couples “see” or think about each-other. As these viewpoints improve communication improves.
COMMITMENT becomes stronger as you learn how to strengthen your friendship and re- create passion.
INTIMACY– must be genuine. A feeling you create as you learn how to keep the “honeymoon from being over”.
